An exuberant three-and-a-half minute film titled My Mutant Brain has been released to celebrate the launch of Kenzo World, a new perfume from the brand’s creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon for Kenzo Parfums.
Directed by none other than Spike Jonze, the short film embraces freedom of expression and creativity, which are the core of the Kenzo spirit. It stars The Nice Guys actress Margaret Qualley performing insanely wild choreography from Ryan Heffington (who previously worked with Sia on her music video for ‘Chandelier’), against an original soundtrack by Sam Spiegel and Ape Drums, feat. Assassin. “When we think about perfume campaigns, we think about a pretty girl with a bottle. This clip is exactly the opposite. It’s very multi-faceted and different; it takes the spectator by surprise,” said Qualley.
The new fragrance, created in collaboration with perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, is an unprecedented blend of ambroxan, peony, and Egyptian jasmine. The bottle is crafted from black rubber, pink gold-tone metal and opaline, and is shaped like an eye – a motif the luxury label is famous for. “The eye is both feminine and powerful at the same time,” said Leon and Lim.
The clip is equal parts glamorous and energizing, like an ice cold bottle of Badoit being sprayed in your face. And more than a little reminiscent of Jonze’s Grammy-winning music video for Fatboy Slim’s classic joint, ‘Weapon of Choice.’ Check it out:
