Wing Ta is a Minneapolis-based photographer and creative director who isn’t afraid to go outside the box to capture something truly authentic. In 2010, she launched Canary Grey as a digital home for her many creative endeavours. In the six years since, it’s grown into a fully-fledged business, specializing in all things lifestyle. Wing has a fine sense of style and a love of travel, so we caught up with her during her stay in Room 111 at The Cabanas to get the low on a few of her favorite things.
My name is…
Wing Ta… and my creative studio is Canary Grey.
For work, I’m:
A freelance photographer and creative director based in Minneapolis. I specialize in lifestyle, interiors and sartorial photography and brands.
When I’m not working, I’m:
Cooking. The whole process of creating a meal really relaxes me and I love to entertain with my friends. We usually plan a night once a week where we all cook dinner (and have cocktails) together.
Top three essential things to pack when travelling?
One of my cameras, Aesop facial moisturizer, and my wool cloud scarf from Scarf Shop.
First thing you pick from the mini-bar?
Whiskey or champagne, depending on the mood!
What’s the best thing to do on vacation?
Everything! Ha, I’m typically a planner… so I love to research and find all of the unique and interesting things to do in that city/destination. Finding a rad lodging or hotel is usually the first thing I do!
Most Instagram-worthy spot at The Hollywood Roosevelt?
Pool area. I love the chic tropical vibe.
What’s your poolside style?
This rust colored high waisted two-piece by Hackwith Design. Classic yet sexy.
What’s on the soundtrack for your stay?
Old school 90’s hip hop.
What has living in Minneapolis taught you?
To keep creating and putting out my best work. I’m so excited to be a part of our thriving creative community here… Minneapolis has a lot to offer! Also, living here has taught me to appreciate all four seasons – frigid winters and all.
What does LA have that no other city has?
The diverse communities and neighborhoods that exist all in one city are so amazing.
Lastly, what’s the best advice you’ve been given?
It’s cliche, but I never take anything for granted. You only have one life to live and it should be an adventure.
